CHICAGO (CBS) — A man was in police custody Wednesday morning, after a chase that ended with a crash and shots fired by officers in the North Austin neighborhood.

The chase started around midnight, when officers tried to pull over the driver of a white sport-utility vehicle at North and Grand avenues.

The man sped away and crashed into a squad car more than a mile away at Crystal Street and Lavergne Avenue, then plowed into a tree.

Officers fired shots at the suspect after he tried to run from the scene. The suspect was not hit.

Police chased the suspect down and ultimately caught him and placed him under arrest a few blocks southeast in the 4900 block of West Augusta Boulevard, police News Affairs told the Sun-Times Media Wire.

No charges had been filed as of 5 a.m. Wednesday.
