Hairstylist's Action May Have Saved Client's Life

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (CBS) -- A longtime hairstylist is being honored by Hoffman Estates police for helping save an elderly client's life.

As WBBM Newsradio's John Waelti reports, Joan Ludovice, 82, has been going to Jose Moran at the Preferred Hair Salon in Schaumburg to get her hair styled for the better part of two decades, every week, without fail.

But on March 16, Ludovice didn't show up for an appointment. Moran became alarmed.

"She didn't call, so I got concerned, and I called her a few times," Moran said.

But he got no response, even after paying a visit to her home. So Moran notified police, who found Ludovice on the floor.

She had been there since the previous night after suffering several strokes and a heart attack.

Ludovice survived, and now, Hoffman Estates police are honoring Moran for going beyond a call of duty.

"I wasn't expecting any of this. I was just mainly concerned about her," Moran said. "I'm just very grateful that they got to her when she was alive."

Moran says he's back to doing Ludovice's hair, and hopes to be doing it for many years to come.
