DOLTON, Ill. (STMW) - An exchange of gunfire with police in Dolton early Saturday ended when a 22-year-old man suspected of a shooting outside a nightclub in the south suburb was shot dead by police.
Police were on the scene at approximately 2:25 a.m. when two people were leaving De Ja Vu Nighclub, 14112 Chicago Rd. in Dolton, according to village spokeswoman TaQuoya Kennedy.
The officers heard gunfire and looked to see a man shoot another man several times. Police carefully approached the victim and suspect, who then fired shots at police and ran about a half-block, Kennedy said.
Police exchanged gunfire with the suspect and running about a half-block with the weapon still in hand, the suspect met with backup police officers and gunfire was exchanged with police once again. The suspect was shot by police and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, as was the man he had shot, Kennedy said.
The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Darrell C. Robinson, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office, was pronounced dead after arrival at the hospital. The victim went into surgery Saturday morning and his condition was unknown as of early Saturday afternoon. Robinson’s home address was not immediately available. An autopsy Saturday found he had been shot multiple times and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.
Dolton Police are continuing to investigate and had no additional details.
