CHICAGO (STMW) - A 20-year-old man is dead and a 17-year-old boy was wounded during a shooting in the South Side Back of the Yards neighborhood Friday night.

The shooting occurred in the 1900 block of West 48th Street at 9:08 p.m., police said.

A 20-year-old man was shot in the head, police said.

Alexander Mendoza, of an unknown home address, was pronounced dead at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County at 9:50 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

A 17-year-old boy was also taken to Stroger in “stable” condition with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
