Woman Harmed By Daughter's Ex-Boyfriend In Home Invasion

ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. (CBS) -- A 60-year-old woman in far northwest suburban Round Lake Beach walked in on a home invasion, was attacked with a knife and doused with gasoline Friday night.

The alleged culprit, 19-year-old Ricardo Rodriquez of Fox Lake, may have been after the woman's daughter -- his ex-girlfriend.

The intended target tells CBS 2's Jim Williams that Rodriguez was very upset over their breakup.

"He was such sweet boyfriend in the eight months we dated. I would never see him do this to me. I don't understand what happened between the breakup and this moment," the ex-girlfriend, Jasmine Gonzalez, says.

Armored police vehicles and dozens of officers swarmed her family home Friday night, looking for her ex-boyfriend, Rodriquez.

Gonzalez says Rodriguez broke into her home Friday night and attacked her mother, Lillia.

"My mom gets here, she sees a shadow, and then she goes downstairs and then he comes out and pushes her and  has a knife, telling her she's going to die, that he's the devil," the daughter said.

Rodriguez pushed her mother in the bathroom and tried to stab her, and Lillia received a laceration on her finger, Gonzales said.

Lillia Gonzalez, who runs a day care service, was traumatized further. Police say Rodriguez poured gasoline on the woman, but she managed to escape and run to a neighbor's house to call 911.

That brought the heavy police presence.

"I saw assault rifles and German shepherds and a SWAT team," neighbor Evette Ashley said. "It was literally like a scene out of a movie."

Rodriguez managed to get out of the neighborhood but was later arrested at his home in Fox Lake.

"He knew my mom was my best friend. He knew that we were close enough. And I told him once if anything happened to my mom I would technically die inside," Gonzalez says.

Rodriquez faces several charges, including home invasion, unlawful restraint and aggravated battery. He'll appear in bond court Sunday, authorities said.

Lillia Gonzalez is out of the hospital.
