(CBS) The White Sox placed right-handed reliever Jesse Crain on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a strained left oblique and recalled right-hander Dylan Axelrod from Triple-A Charlotte.

The move is retroactive to April 21 as Crain has not pitched since April 20 in Seattle.

The right-hander has a 2.57 ERA with two holds and 10 strikeouts over six games this season. He ranks sixth among American League relievers with 12.86 strikeouts per nine innings pitched.

Axelrod, meanwhile, was off to a great start in Charlotte. He is 2-1 with a 1.08 ERA, 26 strikeouts and a .216 opponents average in four starts with the Knights.
