Sauk Village Teen Fatally Shot On Far South Side

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 16-year-old boy from south suburban Sauk Village was killed Friday night in what police are calling a gang-related shooting in the Far South Side Pullman neighborhood.

Police said they found the boy unresponsive on the sidewalk in the 12100 block of South Green Street about 9:09 p.m.

Donnell Rankin, 16, of the 21700 block of South Clyde Avenue in Sauk Village, was dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. An autopsy on Saturday determined Rankin died from a gunshot wound to the neck, the medical examiner's office said.

Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said the shooting was gang-related.

Shell casings were recovered at the scene, and Area South detectives have begun a homicide investigation. No one was in custody as of Saturday night.
