Pair In Custody After Robbery Turns Deadly

CHICAGO (CBS) - Two people are being questioned in a robbery and shooting that left one man dead Tuesday night.

The 22-year-old man -- identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as Akeem J. Morris -- was with five other people in the 4000 block of West West End Avenue about 6:39 p.m. when three men approached and announced a robbery, police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez said.

One of the robbers pulled out a handgun, and Morris tussled with him to try to get the gun, police said. As the two struggled, the robber shot Morris in the face.

Paramedics took Morris in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:46 p.m., authorities said.

Two of the three men are in custody, and charges are pending, Perez said.
