To think, only months ago LA Kings’ winger Dustin Penner was a punchline. Penner, a player who has always battled weight and fitness issues, injured himself eating pancakes. Last night…he became a playoff hero. His overtime winning goal sent the Kings to the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 1993.

It’s very easy to fall in love with a player based on a strong playoff run. See Pisani, Fernando or Cullimore, Jassen. Penner is a big left winger…certainly something the Blackhawks could use…but he’s not the guy…at least not for the money he will likely command.
