North Chicago Officer Wounded While Investigating Fight

NORTH CHICAGO, Ill. (STMW) -- Officials are investigating a shooting incident that wounded a City of North Chicago police officer Friday night, according to James Jackson, North Chicago's interim chief of police.

North Chicago's Ray Hartmann was among the police officers responding to a call of a fight in progress and a man with a gun in the 1400 block of Hervey Avenue about 11:16 p.m. on Friday.

Several individuals who matched the description of people involved in the fight were stopped in the 1400 block of Kristan Avenue, which is one block west of Hervey.

Several shots were fired in the area while the investigation was under way, and one round struck Hartmann.

Hartmann was treated for a graze wound to his left-shoulder area.

He was treated and released from Vista Medical Center in Waukegan. He was wearing his police vest, Jackson said.

No other injuries were reported. All subjects from the fighting incident were placed in police vehicles to ensure their safety, Jackson said.

The Lake County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene and are assisting with the investigation.

No individuals have been charged as of Sunday, according to Jackson.
