(WSCR) According to a report from Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Chicago Cubs have acquired Cuban prospect Jorge Soler.
The Cubs were one of several teams with bids in to land the 20-year-old Cuban prospect. Soler played for the Cuban national baseball team in international competition before defecting from Cuba in 2011, seeking a career in Major League Baseball.
Soler will likely be assigned to Single-A and is slated to to play right field.
CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman reports the deal is worth $30 million over nine years.
