Sandusky Supporters: He's 'A Saint, A Wonderful Guy'

(WSCR) While much of the world cringes at the name Jerry Sandusky, the former Penn State football coach does indeed have a small group of unrelentingly loyal supporters.

One of those supports is Joyce Porter, a friend of the Sandusky's for over 40 years, who recently spoke with Yahoo! Sports' Dan Wetzel.

"A saint, a wonderful guy," Porter said of her long-time friend, Jerry Sandusky.

Porter and her family met the Sandusky's in 1969, and the families have been entwined ever since. She vehemently defends Sandusky and claims his accusers are simply looking for money.

Sandusky, she said, has even had a profound impact on one of her own children.

"One of the things that make me feel like I do is in 1985, we had a little boy with Down syndrome," Porter said of Matt, one of her 14 children [nine natural, five adopted]. "Dottie and Jerry would take him over to their home. They were wonderful with him.

"… And my Matt just adores Jerry. You say to Matt, 'Who's the best?' and he says, 'Jerry!' "

Porter said there is nothing that could make her believe Sandusky committed these heinous acts.

"I've been his friend for 40 years," she said. "I'm not going to let that go. He just didn't do these things."
