Schaumburg Police Investigate Reported Attack In Parking Garage

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Schaumburg woman told police she was attacked earlier today in the parking garage of her apartment complex.

The incident happened around 1:30 a.m. when the 31-year-old woman said she was knocked out after being attacked while getting something from her car, police said in a news release.

The incident occurred in an underground parking garage of her apartment building, Versailles on the Lakes, in the 1000 block of North Plum Grove Road.

After the woman regained consciousness a short time later, she contacted police and was taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates for treatment of minor injuries.

It is unknown if the victim was sexually assaulted, police said.

Many of the women who live in the complex are on alert. They learned about the incident from building managers who distributed a police warning flyer.

"I usually feel comfortable, and still do," resident Mandy Mazza told CBS2's Mike Parker.  "But it still puts me on edge."

Carolynn Travis she recently moved to the complex from Chicago.

"It doesn't matter where you are," she said. "People are people."

But Travis also said she thinks the attack was an isolated incident.
