Teen Girl Beaten, Sexually Assaulted Near South Side Viaduct

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A teenage girl was beaten and raped while walking on the South Side early Sunday morning.

A man grabbed the 17-year-old girl, who was walking in the 500 block of West Englewood Avenue about 2:10 a.m. Sunday, then dragged her into a vacant lot near a viaduct. He then beat and sexually assaulted the girl, according to a community alert from Area South detectives.

The man fled and the teen ran home for assistance, police said in a community alert issued Monday.

The suspect is described as a 25- to 30-year-old black man with a dark complexion and low box haircut, police said. He is about 5-foot-5 with a muscular build, and was wearing a brown and white checkered shirt and dark blue pants.

Anyone with information should call detectives at (312) 747-8271.
