Police Warn Of Increase In Armed Robberies In Greater Grand Crossing

CHICAGO (STMW) - Police are alerting residents of the South Side Greater Grand Crossing area of an increase in armed robberies that have occurred there in the past month.

A community alert said the armed robberies have taken place in the month of June in the vicinity of the 7100 - 75000 South blocks of King Drive and Langley Avenue.

The offender approaches the victims and announce a robbery, while displaying a handgun. At least one of the victims reported that the gun was a blue steel revolver. Detectives are seeking information from anyone with knowledge of the offender or offenders, generally described as a black male with a dark complexion, between 30 - 40 years old, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-7, 185 to 200 pounds, the alert said. Another offender was described as a black male 5-foot-10 to 5-foot-11, with dreadlocks.

Police advise anyone who is a victim never to pursue a fleeing assailant, but just provide the information to the police, and to dial 911 immediately and remain on scene when possible. Anyone who may have information on these robberies is asked to contact Area Central detectives, at (312) 747-8380.
