Pair Arrested In Elgin Home Invasion, Beating

ELGIN, Ill. (CBS) -- Elgin police say an ex-boyfriend and his friend are responsible for breaking into a home and beating a couple this weekend.

Police arrested Modesto Rosales and Jaime Zarate after a brief foot chase outside Rosales' home early Saturday morning.

Elgin Police Lt. Dan O'Shea says the female victim identified Modesto and officers went to his last known address.

The pair allegedly broke into a home in the 400 block of Raymond Street at about 3:20 a.m. on Saturday, and beat the 20-year-old woman and 25-year-old man inside, but didn't take anything.

O'Shea says Rosales and Zarate used an iron to beat the male victim, leaving him with extensive facial injuries.

The Chicago Tribune reports Rosales and the female victim have a 5-year-old child together, who witnessed the attack but wasn't injured.

O'Shea would only say that Rosales and the woman used to date.

Rosales and Zarate - who were already on parole - have been charged with aggravated battery and home invasion.

They were due in bond court this morning.
