LA GRANGE, Ill. (STMW) — Police hiding inside St. Francis Xavier Church in La Grange early Monday arrested a man as he tried to burglarize the church, police said.

Daniel S. Blubaugh, 31, of Naperville was arrested by two officers who hid in the church at 145 N. Waiola Ave. in La Grange after officials reported a pattern of Sunday donations coming up missing.

About 1:20 a.m., Blubaugh was seen entering the church and removing cash from donation boxes, police said.

He was immediately arrested, and later charged with burglary to a place of worship, possession of burglary tools and resisting arrest.

Blubaugh is scheduled to appear in bond court Tuesday.
