Cubs Sign Cuban Outfielder Soler To 9-Year, $30M Deal

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Cubs have signed Cuban outfielder Jorge Soler to a nine-year, $30 million deal.

The Cubs announced the deal before Saturday's game against the Houston Astros.

The 20-year-old Soler was sought after by several teams and is considered a five-tool player who will require some minor league seasoning. He will report to the team's spring training and minor league facility in Mesa., Ariz.

Earlier this year the Cubs signed Cuban left-hander Geraldo Concepcion. The Oakland Athletics made a big splash by signing another Cuban outfielder, Yoenis Cespedes, to a four-year, $36 million contract in February. And on Friday, the Los Angeles Dodgers signed Cuban outfielder Yasiel Puig to a seven-year, $42 million deal.
