Parking Lots At 3 Beaches Fill Up As Chicagoans Try To Beat Heat

CHICAGO (CBS) -- With countless Chicagoans trying to beat the intense heat in the city by taking a dip in Lake Michigan, officials have closed the parking lots at three popular beaches, after they ran out of space.

The city has closed the parking lots at Rainbow Beach, Montrose Beach and Foster Avenue Beach, after all three parking lots filled to capacity Wednesday afternoon.

Visitors can still go to all three beaches on foot, but there was no parking available at any of those beaches as of 4:30 p.m.

The temperature in Chicago tied a 101-year-old record on Wednesday, when the mercury at O'Hare International Airport hit 102 degrees. It could be the first of three days in a row with triple digit heat in Chicago.
