4-Year-Old Dies In Head-On Crash Near Lowell

LOWELL, Ind. (STMW) -- A 4-year-old boy is dead after a head-on crash near Lowell, Ind., late Friday.

Evan Schubert of Lowell was a passenger in the Dodge Caravan driven by his father, Philip Miley, west on 181st Avenue. Investigators said Miley's crossed the center line and collided with a GMC truck traveling the opposite direction and driven by Donald Williams.

A third vehicle, a Chrysler Town and Country minivan driven by Richard Spivey of Lowell, was traveling behind Williams' vehicle and collided with the rear of Williams' truck after the abrupt stop.

Schubert died from his blunt force trauma injuries. Miley and his other son, a 2-year-old, were transported to St. Anthony Hospital in Crown Point for treatment.

Williams was extricated from his vehicle by Tri-Creek Fire Department and transported to St. Anthony Hospital, as was Spivey, his wife and two children.

The crash occurred about 10 p.m. Friday and Schubert was pronounced dead at 12:03 a.m. Saturday.
