Nurse Killed By Suspected Drunk Driver In Palos Township Crash

PALOS TOWNSHIP, Ill. (CBS) -- A nurse from southwest suburban Lockport was killed early Sunday when a suspected drunk driver struck her vehicle in unincorporated Palos Township.

Heidi Roseen, 51, was driving to her job at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at about 6 a.m., heading east on 95th Street, when her SUV was hit by another vehicle that ran a red light at LaGrange Road, according to Cook County Sheriff's police spokesman Frank Bilecki.

Roseen, of the 16900 block of West 143rd Street in Lockport, was pronounced dead a short time later.

Bilecki said the driver, an Orland Park man, told police he had been drinking since about 5 p.m. on Saturday. Blood-alcohol tests were pending as of Sunday afternoon.

Preliminary information indicated he was going 70 mph at the time of the crash, Bilecki said.

The driver was being held at the sheriff's lockup in Maywood, pending charges.
