(WSCR) When Chicago native Mike Rizzo took over as Washington Nationals general manager in 2009, he knew the team had to get really bad before they could get really good.

Now, in 2012, the Nationals have the best record in the National League and are probably at least a year ahead of schedule.

Nationals owner Ted Lerner showed patience with Rizzo’s approach and it has paid off. Will Tom Ricketts do the same for Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer?

Rizzo joined Hit & Run Sunday to discuss his approach in Washington. Does it sound familiar?
