Bears DT Collins Suspended For Substance Abuse

(CBS) Bears defensive tackle Nate Collins has been suspended without pay for the team's first game of the 2012 regular season and fined an additional game check for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse, a league spokesperson said in a statement.

According to the statement, Collins will be eligible to return to the Bears' active roster on Monday, September 10 following the team's September 9 game against the Indianapolis Colts.

The 24-year-old Collins, who signed as a free agent with the Bears in May, is eligible to participate in all offseason and preseason practices and games.
