Man Charged In Attempted Rape In Old Town Triangle

Updated 07/23/12 - 12:58 p.m.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 21-year-old man has been charged with attacking a woman who was jogging in the Old Town Triangle neighborhood on Sunday.

Police said the woman was jogging in the 300 block of West Menomonee Street at about 7:30 a.m. Sunday, when a man grabbed her and dragged her into an alley.

When the victim screamed, the man threatened to kill her if she wasn't quiet, but she continued struggling to get free and screaming to get someone's attention.

The attacker was holding a knife, and as the two struggled, she suffered several cuts and other injuries.

Eventually, two other joggers passed by the alley and the attacker fled the scene, but police officers patrolling nearby caught him minutes later, in the courtyard of a nearby apartment building.

The victim identified her attacker and the suspect, 21-year-old Germaine Walker, of the 1300 block of North Hudson Avenue, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and one count of aggravated unlawful restraint.

He was due for a bond hearing Monday afternoon.
