The first deadly shooting this past weekend happened in the 400 block of North Austin Boulevard, on the edge of the South Austin neighborhood across from Oak Park. It happened after a man intervened in a domestic argument between the alleged gunman and a woman, police said.

The suspect left to get a handgun, then returned about 12:50 a.m. on Saturday and opened fire, striking the man and two other people.

The intervener – Akil Partee, 19, of the 5900 block of West Lake Street – was dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Two others were also wounded in the shooting. A 29-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and was in critical condition at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, while a 20-year-old man was shot in the buttocks and taken in fair condition to Stroger Hospital of Cook County. Authorities think the gunman may have shot the men from a light-colored vehicle.

Another man died after he was shot in the abdomen in the 4200 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, in the Portage Park neighborhood, at 1:46 a.m. Saturday, police said.

Pablo Hernandez, 41, of the 3500 block of South 60th Court in Cicero, was pronounced dead at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center at 3:37 a.m. Saturday, according to the Medical Examiner's office.

About 6 a.m. on Saturday, Gerry Woods, 37, was shot at his home in the 4500 block of South Wood Street, in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, after he had apparently been in a fight with another man, authorities said.

The other man returned to the scene with a semi-automatic handgun and fired several shots at Woods, authorities said, adding that the shooting may have been gang-related.

At least 24 other people were hurt in shootings on the South and West sides since about 8 p.m. Friday evening.

Authorities did not immediately disclose motives for most of the shootings, though police said one stemmed from an argument between two men during a dice game, and other shootings were believed to be either gang- or drug-related.

The shooting spurred by the dice game happened around 11:30 p.m. Friday in the 2800 block of West Roosevelt Road, in the North Lawndale neighborhood.

Two men started arguing during the dice game, and one pulled out a gun and fired shots. A 47-year-old man, who was not even involved in the argument, was wounded in the leg and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in guarded condition.

Also, four teenage boys were among the wounded during shootings Saturday night.

A 13-year-old boy was shot while sitting on the front porch of a home when two males approached on foot and opened fire at 10:54 p.m. Saturday in the 8600 block of South Morgan Street in the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood, police said. He was taken in good condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with a gunshot wound to the right forearm.

Three teenage boys were shot while walking on the sidewalk in the 7100 block of South Loomis Boulevard, in the Englewood neighborhood, at 11:23 p.m. Saturday when two men approached on foot and opened fire, police said.

A 13-year-old boy was taken in Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with gunshot wounds in the left and right shoulder, police said. A 16-year-old was shot in the right thigh and suffered a graze wound to the left thigh. He was taken to Stroger Hospital. Another 13-year-old boy was taken to Comer Children's Hospital at the University of Chicago with a gunshot wound in the right thigh, police said. All three teens were in stable condition.
