Five DePaul Programs Lead Big East In Team Academic Excellence Awards
(CBS) DePaul announced today it led the Big East Conference with five 2011-12 Team Academic Excellence Awards for having the highest collective grade-point averages in each conference sport.
The conference office announced the team winners on Thursday morning with women's basketball, golf, men's soccer, men's tennis and women's tennis honored for top academic averages.
The five teams match last year's total as DePaul led the league for the second consecutive year. Since 2008-09, DePaul's women's basketball, golf, men's soccer, softball, men's tennis and women's tennis teams have all earned the Big East Team Academic Excellence at least once. Women's basketball and men's soccer have both won the conference's Team Academic Excellence Award each of the last four seasons. Women's basketball is coming off its 10th straight NCAA Championship appearance and was recently ranked third in the WBCA Academic Top 25.
