Time Running Out For Paying 2010 Property Taxes

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Property owners who still haven't paid their 2010 taxes are receiving one last chance to make good on their bills.

As WBBM Newsradio's Brandis Friedman reports, Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas says property owners have several options.

They can pay their 2010 property taxes online by midnight Friday, or pay at any Chase Bank branch by Aug. 1. If not, those unpaid taxes go to public auction on Aug. 3.

Pappas says 2010 taxes are still due for some 59,000 properties.

Whoever buys those unpaid bills in auction can levy even more fees and penalties in addition to those already imposed by the county.

Also, those owners who do not pay in a timely fashion could risk losing their homes.
