LAKE VILLA, Ill. (CBS) – A 10-year-old boy was killed in a boating accident Saturday afternoon on a lake in the far north suburbs.
Fire department rescue teams rushed to Petite Lake near Lake Villa after two water craft collided around 4:30 p.m.
One of the boats was pulling a 10-year-old boy in an inner tube, and the child was killed, the state’s Department of Natural Resources said.
Illinois Conservation Police Sgt. Brett Scroggins said the boy has been identified as Antonio Borcia, of Libertyville.
Two others were hurt in the accident, which was under investigation.
The news shocked witnesses who were expecting a relaxing day at the lake. They heard screams near the accident site.
