Illinois Fresh Food Fund To Provide Groceries For 'Food Deserts'
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Illinoisans in so-called "food deserts" will have better access to fresh food under a new state program.
As WBBM Newsradio's Lisa Fielding reports, the Illinois Fresh Food Fund will provide money to independent grocery store operators and developers to create full-service grocery stores in those areas.

The program is modeled after successful efforts in Pennsylvania and New York state that provide residents in disadvantaged communities with greater access to a nutritionally balanced diet, coupled with nutritional education.
