CHICAGO (CBS) — Family night is a very big deal for Bears fans.

And last year it was a very big disappointment, all because sod on the playing field was in such sorry shape.

Thousands of fans were turned away because the turf was so bad; it was too dangerous for players, who could have risked a preseason injury on the uneven sod.

The family day practice was canceled, and the Bears got on buses and headed back to camp in Bourbonnais. Fans never got to see the players.

CBS 2’s Suzanne Le Mignot checked out the conditions this year. The Bears say Solider Field landscapers have the field in great shape, avoiding a repeat 2011.
