Suspected Robber Caught After Victim Confronts Him

UPDATED 08/06/12 1:40 p.m.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man suspected in a Northwest Side mugging early Monday morning is behind bars, after police say his victim put up a good fight.

As WBBM Newsradio's John Waelti reports, police say the 39-year-old man was walking home in the 3100 block of West Cullom Avenue – in the Albany Park neighborhood – around 2:30 a.m. Monday. Two men approached him with a gun and robbed him, police said.

The men told the victim to get on the ground and threatened to shoot if he didn't comply. They then went through his pockets and took everything inside, police said.

As the victim got up and continued his walk home, he happened to run into one of his attackers and this time confronted the robber, getting into a fight.

Police were called, the melee was sorted out, and the suspected robber was arrested. The 25-year-old man is now facing charges of aggravated battery, with police still on the lookout for the second assailant.
