CHICAGO (CBS) — Civil rights history is on display at the Chase Center downtown this week, with an interactive, traveling exhibit profiling the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
As WBBM Newsradio’s John Waelti reports, the traveling exhibit is a one-of-a-kind collection of roughly 200,000 digitized pieces of history, focusing on Dr. King.
Dr. Carolyn Adams of the DuSable Museum of African-American History calls the exhibit magical.
“This is very hard work to digitize this many pieces of information, properly categorize them and cross-categorize them so people can get to it,” Adams said.
Illinois State Rep. Kenneth Dunkin (D-Chicago) says too many young people have lost touch with King’s legacy.
“It spreads the good gospel of King’s story, of a great man and a great movement, and this is an American experience,” Dunkin said, “and it changed the world dynamic overseas as well.”
