CALUMET PARK, Ill. (CBS) – Police say a missing 6-year-old girl from Calumet Park is safe – and her biological, non-custodial mother is under arrest.

Calumet Park Police Investigations Coordinator Mark Smith said Chicago Police got a tip about the whereabouts of the girl and the mother, and police took the mother into custody.

Mother and daughter disappeared Tuesday night in Calumet Park, after the mother asked her grandmother – who has custody of 6-year-old Ariyah Bohannon – if she could take her for a walk.

Smith said Ariyah will be checked out at a hospital as a precaution, but he said she appears safe.

Smith called the developments today “great news.”
