Pedestrian Hit By Taxi Downtown

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A pedestrian was hospitalized Thursday morning, after being hit by a taxi downtown.

Just before 8:30 a.m., the pedestrian – whose age and gender were not known, was hit by the cab on Wacker Drive near Washington Street.

Fire Media Affairs Cmdr. Will Knight tells WBBM Newsradio's Regine Schlesinger the person was bumped by the cab and was not seriously injured.

Paramedics took the person to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious, but stable, condition, officials said.

This accident comes just two days after a cab slammed into a bus stop bench and killed a man at Milwaukee and Chicago avenues west of downtown.

At 6:35 a.m. Tuesday, Eric Kerestes, 30, was waiting for a bus when he was hit by the speeding Checker Cab. He was dead at the scene.

The cab was demolished and caught fire. The driver, John Kesse, was pulled from the cab by a good Samaritan and was taken to an area hospital, while Kesse's passenger escaped independently and was also hospitalized.
