CHICAGO (CBS) — Reduced fares will be in effect a little longer for Chicago Public School students this fall.

CPS and the CTA have agreed to a half-hour extension to accommodate full-day students and those students who attend after-school activities.

The lower rates will be in effect from 5:30 a.m to 8:30 p.m on school days. The extended hours went into effect last Monday.

Student riding permits are available for students 12-years-old and older and can be obtained at the elementary or high school where a student is in attendance, or by calling (312) 932-2923.

The cost to get the card is $5 during the regular school year. Click here for the order form.

Classes begin for most Chicago Public School students on Sept. 4, the day after Labor Day.
