Funeral To Be Held For Lombard Mayor This Weekend

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Funeral arrangements now are set for the longtime Lombard village president who died of West Nile virus over the weekend.

WBBM Newsradio's Regine Schlesinger reports 76-year-old Bill Mueller led Lombard for 19 years. He'd battled cancer several times but, it was West Nile virus that killed him this past weekend.

Village Manager David Hulseberg credited Mueller with turning Lombard, which calls itself the Lilac Village, into a major attraction -- while never losing sight of the small hometown feel that he experienced growing up in the western suburb.

The village now says Mueller's wake will be held from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday at St. Pius the Tenth Catholic Church in Lombard. His funeral will be there at 10 a.m. Saturday. The family is asking that instead of flowers, memorials be made to any Lombard charity.
