CHICAGO (STMW) - A man was killed in a shooting Wednesday evening in the East Garfield Park neighborhood.

The man, 49, was shot in the abdomen in the 2800 block of West Wilcox Street at about 5:30 p.m., according to police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.

He was initially taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition, and was pronounced there at 6:05 p.m., according to officials.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed the fatality, but declined to release his name pending notification of family members.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
