CHICAGO (STMW) – Police are warning taxi drivers to be on the alert after a string of armed robberies in cabs in the South Side Kenwood neighborhood.
Police say robberies in the 4500 block of South Lake Park Avenue, and the 4800 block of South Kenwood Avenue began with a man hailing a cab. The burglar gives the driver his destination, and as they drive, he robs them with a knife, according to a business alert issued Wednesday.
The robber is described as a black man between 20 and 25, between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-10 and 160-175 pounds. He wore dark clothing and was armed with a knife.
In one case he called to request a ride, and in the other he hailed a cab on the street, the alert said.
Anyone with information should call Area Central detectives at (312) 747-8382.
