CHICAGO (STMW) -- Police are looking for a man who forced his way into a West Side apartment early Monday and sexually assaulted a woman at gunpoint.

The man cut a screen door with a sharp instrument and opened a sliding glass door to force his way into a second-floor apartment while the resident slept about 3:55 a.m. Monday in the 1000 block of West 16th Street, according to an alert from Area Central detectives.

Once inside, the man entered the bedroom and sexually assaulted the woman at gunpoint, police said.

The suspect is described as a 30- to 40-year-old black man armed with a blue steel handgun, police said. His height and weight were not known.
