"Today was his first day of chemo and he's done very well," said Chicago Roman Catholic Archdiocese Spokeswoman Colleen Dolan said. "He came home midday and went right to his meetings."

And Dolan says at almost 5 p.m., the cardinal was still in meetings.

The cardinal will have another chemotherapy session next week--and then will have a week of no chemo.

He's scheduled to finish the course of treatment about the end of the year.

Dolan says Cardinal George "looks good and his spirits are up."

Cancer was found in a nodule removed from his liver, and cancerous cells were also found in his right kidney.
