Man, Woman Dead In Suspected Murder-Suicide At Sycamore Hospital

SYCAMORE, Ill. (CBS) -- A shooting inside a hospital in the Illinois town of Sycamore has left a man and woman dead.

As WBBM Newsradio's Bob Roberts reports, police say the case appears to be a murder-suicide. They responded to Kindred Hospital, at 225 Edward St. in Sycamore, after a report of gunshots being fired.

Sycamore police Chief Don Thomas says neither the male patient nor his female friend had posed a problem in the past or were thought to be a problem.

Thomas adds that he has no issue with the security at Kindred Hospital.

"This is a very secure hospital," Thomas said. "It's right in the middle of our town, and it's described as a long-term post-acute care provider, so many of the patients that are there, they're there for long-term. They're there for extended stays."

Police recovered the gun used in the shooting. Thomas says the couple was dead before hospital personnel could rush to the room.

The hospital released a statement saying the situation is "sad and unfortunate."
