Sunny Skies And Highs In The Mid-80s For The Afternoon

CHICAGO (CBS) -- It may seem like summer is behind us now, but it certainly won't feel like it Tuesday afternoon.

CBS 2 Meteorologist Megan Glaros reports temperatures will hit the mid-80s for most areas Tuesday, with beautiful sunshine and barely a cloud in the sky.

As of 11:20 a.m., the temperature was already 76 degrees at Midway International Airport and at Kankakee, 75 degrees at Gary, Ind., and 74 degrees at O'Hare International Airport and Valparaiso, Ind.

Conditions are also getting breezy, and the south-southwest winds will hit a sustained speed of 5 to 10 mph, gusting into the 20s.

The reason for the near-perfect conditions is a ridge of high-pressure hovering over eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania, which is allowing the warm south-southwesterly wind to blow into Chicago.

If the temperature hits 84 as forecast, it will make 100 days with a high over 80 for the year so far, which will be a tie for the sixth largest number ever.

Overnight, the low drops to 62, but on Wednesday, the high climbs to a sweaty 87. The high for Thursday is 80, Friday 75, Saturday 71, Sunday 73, and Monday again 71.
