Teen Charged With Stealing Lottery Ticket, Taking $10,000

LAKE IN THE HILLS, Ill. (CBS) -- A winning $10,000 Illinois Lottery ticket has turned out to be unlucky for a 19-year old man from the northwest suburbs.

As WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports, the $20 scratch-off ticket was not so lucky for Nikko Gonzalez, 19, of the 5400 block of Crossview Lane in Lake in the Hills. Police tell the Northwest Herald that Gonzalez stole the ticket from his friends' parents' home.

According to the Northwest Herald, Lake in the Hills police say the friend's parents quickly realized one of their Lottery tickets was missing, and heard Gonzalez had won $10,000 with the same kind of ticket.

Police were called, an investigation was conducted, and Gonzalez is now charged with felony theft, the Northwest Herald reports.

Police say Gonzalez has spent some of the money, and the rest is unaccounted for, the newspaper reported.
