Illinois Tops The Nation For Home Foreclosures

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The state of Illinois now claims an unenviable distinction – it now leads the nation in home foreclosures.

As WBBM Newsradio's Regine Schlesinger reports, new figures from RealtyTrac show that last month, Illinois was at the top among states for foreclosure activity.

One of nearly 300 homes here received some form of foreclosure notice in August. That figure is up 29 percent from July and 42 percent from the year before.

Among metropolitan areas, Chicago was eighth in foreclosure notices, behind seven California cities. And Rockford was just behind Chicago.

Nationwide, foreclosures were down 15 percent from last year and up just slightly from July.
