Officer Run Over While Conducting Traffic Stop On South Side

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Chicago Police officer was in stable condition Thursday morning, after he was run over by a hit-and-run driver.

Police have since found the vehicle the offender was driving.

The officer was conducting a traffic stop just after 12:30 a.m. Thursday at 79th Street and Wabash Avenue. He was standing outside his squad car when he was hit.

The officer was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was reported in stable condition, police said. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Police found the vehicle that ran over the officer just a few blocks away, but the driver was not with the car.

No one was in custody as of the 5 a.m. hour Thursday.
