CHICAGO (CBS) — Chicago Police are looking for a man who attempted to kidnap a young girl Wednesday evening in the Little Village neighborhood.

As WBBM Newsradio’s Bernie Tafoya reports, police say the man followed the 8-year-old girl into the alley behind the 3500 block of West 27th Street around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A police community alert says the man grabbed the girl’s arm and tried to drag her into a garage. But the girl broke free and ran away.

The man is described as Hispanic and between 30 and 35, standing 5 feet 5 to 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 130 to 150 pounds. He had an olive complexion and a mustache, police said.

Police say the man was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and had a generally dirty appearance.

Police advise neighbors to be aware of their surroundings and report anyone or anything suspicious.

Anyone with information is asked to call Area Central police detectives, at (312) 747-8380.
