Celebrities Take Their Swings At Medinah Before Ryder Cup

MEDINAH, Ill. (CBS) -- The best golfers from around the world are playing this week in our backyard, at Medinah Country Club for the Ryder Cup, but on Tuesday it was more about the stargazing.

CBS 2's Dana Kozlov spent the day on the greens with some Hollywood elites.

It was a beautiful day to be out at the golf course at Medinah, where some serious golfing took place at the first-ever Ryder Cup Captains & Celebrity Scramble, but there was a lot of humor, as well.

From funnyman George Lopez to Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps, and from comedian Bill Murray to Hollywood heartthrob Justin Timberlake, celebrity golfers kept everyone entertained at Medinah Country Club on Tuesday.

"We need a new Chicago cheer for the Ryder Cup," Murray said before teeing off. "Repeat after me: America!"

Chicago Bears kicker Robbie Gould and other local sports greats played right alongside some of the most respected PGA golfers ever. Some even took time for the appreciative fans, who walked the revered course and lined up to catch a small glimpse.

St. Louis golf fan Tim Sexton said the golfer who impressed him most on Tuesday was Phelps, saying he made it seem like he can do anything.

Geneva resident Carolyn Hill said the highlight of the day for her was watching Murray, who is no stranger to celebrity golf games, and definitely not your average weekend duffer.

"He put on a good show," she said.
