Zion Police Looking For Red Scion In Fatal Hit-And-Run

ZION, Ill. (CBS) — Zion police are releasing new details about a vehicle involved in the fatal hit-and-run that killed a 20-year-old Waukegan man earlier this week.

Authorities say damaged parts left behind at the scene suggest the driver was operating a red Scion XB made between 2004 and 2008. The parts could also fit other Toyota and Lexus models, said Zion police, who released a stock image of a red Scion.

The vehicle likely sustained extensive front-end damage.

The body of Francisco Jose Avila Castro was found around 5:15 a.m. Wednesday at 33rd Street and Geneva Lane. Investigators have not yet determined where the victim was heading at the time, but the body was found near a popular jogging path.

Police speculate the driver who struck Castro was traveling faster than the 35 mph limit at the site.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (847) 746-4106.
