Plainfield Man Struck And Killed On I-55
PLAINFIELD (CBS)-- A pedestrian walking along the northbound lanes of the Stevenson Expressway was fatally struck by a semi truck and a car early Sunday, according to Illinois State Police.
Ryan Knudsen, 22, of Plainfield, was struck while walking on the shoulder of I-55, just north of Route 30, around 5:22 a.m., according to Illinois State Police Joliet District 5. He died at the scene a short while later.
State police said Knudsen was struck by a 2005 White Freight-liner tractor truck traveling north on I-55. A 1999 tan Toyota Camry traveling behind the truck also struck the Knudsen. The driver of the Camry told police that they did not see Knudsen in the roadway prior to striking him.
The coroner's office is conducting toxicology tests, and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
State police are investigating.
