CHICAGO (CBS) — Police fatally shot a man following a barricade situation Monday night in a west suburban home where he fired shots at officers investigating a hit-and-run crash.

George R. Scoville, 47, was taken to Adventist Glen Oaks Hospital in Glendale Heights where he was pronounced dead, the release said.

Police say the man fired several times on an officer investigating a hit-and-run accident.

The accident happened near Lake Street and Lombard Road that happened around 5:40 p.m.

The shooting took place as police went to the man’s home to talk to him about the earlier traffic incident.

Authorities evacuated people who were inside the nearby Addison Trail High School during a brief standoff with the man, which took place around 6:30 p.m.–long after classes had been dismissed.
